Katerina Siniakova (R) and Taylor Townsend celebrate by kissing the trophy after defeating Su-Wei Hsieh and Jelena Ostapenko in the Women’s Doubles Final at the 2025 Australian Open in Melbourne, Australia.

Top seeds Katerina Siniakova and Taylor Townsend held off a comeback from No. 3 seeds Hsieh Su-wei and Jelena Ostapenko to claim the women’s doubles title at the 2025 Australian Open, winning 6-2, 6-7(4), 6-3 in an entertaining final on Sunday.

Siniakova from Czechia and Townsend from the US returned brilliantly, earning four break points in all of their opponents’ service games, and went on to win the first set comfortably.

The second set was much closer, and it looked like the top seeds would secure a straight sets win when Townsend served for the match at 6-3, 5-4. However, she was broken as Hsieh and Ostapenko raised the intensity in the rallies, leveling the set at 5-all.

The set went into a tiebreak, where Hsieh fired a return winner to claim the second set. Things seemed to spiral further when Siniakova hit three double faults in the opening game of the third set and was immediately broken. However, she and Townsend quickly broke back to regain momentum.

The top seeds held steady and took control again, breaking Hsieh’s serve at 5-3. Townsend’s strong volleying helped Siniakova hold her serve to reach triple championship point. A final forecourt putaway from Townsend secured their second match point, and the Czech-American duo claimed their second major title together.

WTA Doubles World No. 1 Siniakova and fifth-ranked Townsend have been playing together for just eight months, yet they already have an impressive track record. In their first Grand Slam appearance as a pair, they claimed the 2024 Wimbledon title, marking Townsend’s first Slam win as a pro. This was followed by a semifinal finish at the 2024 US Open, before going on to win the Australian Open this year. Together, the duo boasts an outstanding 15-1 record across their three Slam tournaments.

Siniakova has one of the most impressive doubles résumés in the Open Era, having won 10 Grand Slam titles in women’s doubles. Her collection includes seven titles with Barbora Krejcikova, one with Coco Gauff, and now two with Townsend.

This marks her third Australian Open title, having previously won here in 2022 and 2023 alongside Krejcikova. Overall, Siniakova has claimed 29 WTA doubles titles. The Czech is the first player to reach 10 women’s doubles Slams since Martina Hingis captured her 10th at Wimbledon in 2015.

Reflecting on her titles, Siniakova said in the champions’ press conference, “It’s really nice that you all are still mentioning it and keeping it in mind …. When you guys come and say, ‘Oh, you did this,’ I’m really excited. So, yeah, it sounds perfect.”

Townsend has seen a rapid rise in her title count recently. The American now has eight career WTA doubles titles, including two Grand Slams, with seven of those coming after her return from maternity leave in 2022.

“I’m really enjoying being able to have this success with her because doubles is a partnership, and we’re a team,” added Townsend. “We win together; we lose together.”

Former WTA Doubles World No. 1 Hsieh was aiming to defend her title, having won the 2024 Australian Open alongside Elise Mertens, while Ostapenko sought to secure her second consecutive Grand Slam, following her 2024 US Open victory with Lyudmyla Kichenok.
